From Goodreads: Introducing the first eight volumes of the fan-favorite, New York Times Best Seller series collected into one massive paperback collection.

In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living. With The Walking Dead #1-48, this compendium features more than one thousand pages chronicling the start of Robert Kirkman's Eisner Award-winning story of zombie horror, from Rick Grimes waking up alone in a hospital, his band of survivors seeking refuge on an isolated farm and the controversial introduction of Woodbury despot, The Governor.

My Thoughts: Love the T.V. series The Walking Dead? How about zombies? Or graphic novels? If you answered yes to any of these three questions then you will LOVE The Walking Dead! I started off reading the smaller books (found here) and quickly realized that I was just devouring them way too fast, so I decided to splurge for the Compendium.

I started off as an avid fan of the show, so I was a little skeptic coming into the comic books. My boyfriend (Zack- sometimes a guest blogger here) had already informed me of some major differences that the books held vs. the AMC series. But, as a she-geek and lover of comic books and zombies, I decided it wouldn't hurt to give it a go. And I am so glad I did! This was a completely different view of The Walking Dead! It was EPIC. There's just no other way to describe it. Action packed, there is NEVER a dull moment.

But what about the characters, you ask? Well, they are AMPED up. Everything you know about the show's characters are magnified and injected with a huge dose of "awesomer" (yeah, that's right- I'm using it as a word). And The Governor? Oh the Governor. Wow. You think he's bad in the show? You haven't seen a villain until you met comic book Governor. The plot line between him and Machionne is just jaw dropping.

Trust me on this. Go out and buy the compendium. I know it's a little on the pricey side ($35 on Amazon or at Wal-Mart), but it's totally worth it. Plus, you're getting a deal really- the first 48 issues in one book? That's less than a $1 per issue. You can't beat it!
