Top Ten Tuesday: Best/ Worst Movie Adaptations

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

It's really hard to find "Best" Book to Movie Adaptations. However, they're are some out there that are actually better *GASP!* than the book. Rare, I know. But it happens. Let's take a look at some of the best before we get to the worst:

1. TrueBlood - AKA The Sookie Stackhouse Series.
Um.. what was I saying again? Oh, yeah. Right. Eric TrueBlood. While the first few Sookie books were pretty epic, they quickly fell flat instantly. Luckily, HBO has made one awesome series out of it.

2. The Vampire Diaries. Again, another show that beats the books hands down. Sorry L.J. Smith. But book Elena is a total snob.

3.   The Hobbit. Okay, so not as good as the book, but still pretty EPIC!

4. The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.
Okay, probably not the most well known movie or book, but they should both definitely be on your TBR and Watch List!

5. The Reader.

Worst Movie Adaptations

1. Flowers in the Attic.
Seriously, I don't know of a worse book to movie adaptation. They completely screwed up the entire plot.

2. Twilight. I hate so say it, because I'm such a Twilight fanatic, or I was. But man, did Kristen Stewart just ruin Bella for me.

3. Queen of the Damned.
I can literally feel Anne Rice shiver whenever someone mentions this movie to her.

4. Beautiful Creatures.
I didn't really care for the book, but at least it was better than the movie.

5. Eragon.
And because I couldn't think of any more, Zack (my lovely boyfriend and sometimes guest reviewer) strongly suggested I put this one on here. He swears the movie was nothing like the book.

  1. I still need to see the Hobbit movie. It's the only Tolkien book I liked. I'm waiting for part 2 though.

Ugh. Yes. Kristen Stewart ruined Bella entirely. The casting was pretty so/so all around but she was horrifying.

Oh, I loved the Beautiful Creatures book but the movie was a disaster.

    1. Oh wow. I thought I was the ONLY one who didn't like the LoTR!!! I adored The Hobbit, but for some reason I just have not been able to get into his other books!

I hear BC gets better as they go along. I had a few issues with the book, but I loved the plot so I went ahead and bought the rest of the series lol.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Um YES, True Blood is way better than the Sookie novels! I totally agree.
I loved the Twilight movies in a bad kind of way haha. Kristen Stewart was terrible and I had sooo many issues with the casting!

    1. I WANTED to love them lol. I tried, I really did. Went to the midnight premiers and everything. But ultimately I just couldn't :( I agree with you the casting was not as fantastic as it could have been! I think if they would have had more funding in the beginning it would be a completely different movie.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I really need to read The Vampire Diaries! I'm madly in love with the show, but I'm curious how the books differ.

Beautiful Creatures is making it onto a lot of worst lists. I still want to see it though.

    1. Honestly, they are NOTHING like the show lol. I picked up Vol. 1 knowing that it was completely different and I could barely even finish it because it was so terrible. Elana is just so shallow it's ridiculous.

I think BC could have been a good movie, had that not went over the top with it. Ethan's accent is beyond silly (and I'm from Alabama! lol)

  6. Yay for True Blood and Vampire Diaries! I was also very positively surprised by the Hobbit! When I first heard that Jackson would make three movies out of that not-so-long book, I thought it was just about the money. When I actually saw it, it was like going in back in time to how awesome it was to wait for December when the next Lord of the Rings movie would come out!
I actually thought Queen of the Damned was better than Interview with the Vampire (well, apart form the portrayal of Marius). However, this is an exception insofar that I always watch the German dubbed version. The voices are so much better. It doesn't come close to the books though.
Thanks for sharing and stopping by! :)
